The New York Yankees (63-35 plus 5.05 betting units) are almost a no-brainer for the playoffs – however, the World Series is a different story. With the July 31st non-waiver deadline approaching, their future market World Series odds (+500) should improve if they’re able to make the right changes to their roster. The Yankees may end up with help by the time they host the Kansas City Royals (30-69, minus-27.51 units) this Thursday. First pitch will be thrown on the MLB Network at 7:05 PM ET.
With the Yankees focusing on a potential World Series run the Royals are focusing on a different situation: selling. The Royals have a big trading piece with 3B Mike Moustakas (.770 OPS). Barring any trades before Thursday, Sonny Gray (5.34 ERA) will start for the Yankees and slug it out with Royals pitcher, Jakob Junis (5.03 ERA). Although Gray has pitched better than his ERA shows, he remains 5.19 units down behind a team record of 9-10. In his second start coming off of the DL, Junis hasn’t treated the Royals much better – with a team record of 8-10 – Junis stands to make a slight profit of 0.51 units.
