Sportsbook wagering - Learn how right now!
by Gambling Bob for NoLuckNeeded.com
Betting on sports (A.k.a.: Sportsbook wagering) used to be a fun,
quick way to make money at the casino sportsbooks AND prove that
your sports and wagering prowess were right. Who doesn't like to
make money AND prove the oddsmakers wrong.
The problem? Only one state - Nevada - had licensed
sportsbooks ( Oh no! ). The solution? The internet ( Oh yes !! ).
Now, with the internet and the entire world at your fingertips,
licensed sportsbook betting is available to you ANYTIME you want
and ANYWHERE you can connect.
Ever wanted to make a bet on football or baseball , NASCAR or
boxing, mixed martial arts or even who might win best film or
actor at the Oscars? If so then read on and learn how!
Okay , let's start with Americs' true favorite sport to tune in to
and the single biggest wagering sport there is - football.
Everyone likes to watch it and everyone loves to bet on it. So let's say
your favorite football team is The Pittsburgh Steelers and you've
figured the Pittsburgh Steelers are ABSOLUTELY going to win the first
game of the season. What do you need to know to get started wagering
- and wagering smart - with a sportsbook?
#1 - Do your research .
Read up on your team stats, the opponents stats and EVERYTHING in
between from the basic statitistics of wins and yardage to who's a better
running quarterback against the blitz on a 3rd down all the way to
which team hasn't managed to eke out a road game win since gas was
priced under $2. You've GOT to know the facts and it's as simple as
clicking onto one of many, many sites that provide ALL that info -
and more - for free.
#2 - Choose a sportsbook to wager with.
This is important - and profitable. There are SO many sportsbooks for
you to choose from. What you need to do in order to narrow the
selections down are ask yourslef these questions:
Is the sportsbook licensed? If so, is it licensed in one of the more
reputable licensing countries? Does it offer quick and easy payout?
How long have they been in business and what kind of online
reputaion do they have? How do their odds compare to other sportsbooks?
#3 - Learn the terms.
Once you've commited some time to proper statistical research and
have chosen a sportsbook to wager with it's almost time to bet - almost.
Before you lay a penny down you've GOT to learn the terms
of sportsbook betting and what they mean and offer. Let's start with
the spread. "The spread " is just a simple term for how many points a
team or individual will either win or lose by - it's as easy as that.
On a sportsbook site the spread is established by oddsmakers and shown
with a - or + sign by the points designated. Let's say the Steelers are
favored to win a game by a touchdown. A touchdown is seven points
and the spread would appear like this : -7. Your wager is saying that the
Steelers will win, or in sportsbook terms, "cover" or" beat the
spread". Once again, on a sportsbook site page if the Steelers
were favored to win by a touchdown then" the spread" would be -7
which means they have to COVER the spread and win by MORE than 7.
Anything above 7 and YOU win . If they win but only do so by 6 or LESS points then they've failed to cover the spread and you lose. Got it?
Excellent. Now on to the various types of bets you can make.
#4 - Your betting choices.
Wagering with a sportsbook not only offers you the choice to bet but
it also offers you SEVERAL ways to bet. Which wager do you choose?
It all depends on what YOU like and which sport or event you're
betting on. Straight bets, proposition bets (also known as " props "),
money line wagers and Over/Under bets are the most common wagers
available. These are all great because they offer you different action
according to what YOU believe will happen in any and all sporting
venues. Read on and see just what I mean:
Straight bets
This is always available as a wager because this bet is simply a wager on
which team or person will win. You can opt for this when betting on
almost anything from U.F.C. to baseball and even auto racing.
Some sports or events will have a straight up bet and that's that.
Some will have this wager but also include a point spread that must
be beat as well. You'll find this bet usually comes with even odds
on games such as baseball, hockey and more notably single winner
events like choosing the winner of the W.S.O.P., The Indianapolis 500 or
who will will the Oscar for best supporting actress at The Academy
Awards (Oh yes, that is a common bet.)
Proposition bets
Proposition bets - or " props " - are great wagers when it comes to
team AND solo sports or events. This wager covers the wide and varied
spectrum of the " what if " bets such as how many touchdowns a
team might score in the entire game or even if a wide receiver will
score any points at all in the 3rd quarter. Proposition bets can really
provide some betting variety as they will cover and include just
about everything. During the Super Bowl will the opening coin toss be
heads or tails? That is a proposition bet . Will driver # 1 finish the race
or not? Prop bet. How many 3 pointers will Atlanta shoot in the last 3
minutes of the game? That's a proposition wager, too! If you like
boxing or mixed martial arts this bet can cover whether a knockout
occurs and even what round it will happen in! "Prop" bets are a lot of fun
and can provide a lot of profit if you bet right.
-Money line wagers
This wagering option is absolutely ideal for the bettor who believes in
their pick and wants ONLY to wager on that single pick and nothing else.
This wager is simply a set amount of money determined by the
sportsbook and shown next to your choice with either a positive sign
( + ) or a negative sign ( - ) next to it . The positive ( + ) sign denotes,
usually based on an even dollar amount like $1 or $100, the
amount of money you must wager to recieve not only your initial
wager back but the even amount back on top as profit once you win.
The negative sign (-) denotes that if you place ONLY the basic
even money amount on the event that in the event you win you will receive your wager back AND the amount denoted next to the positive
sign (+). You will find this wager offered quite frequently in mixed
martial arts, boxing, auto racing, etc.
Over/Under wager
Much like a straight bet the Over/Under bet states that a team or
individual will win or lose. The difference with this bet is that you are
betting on whether they will win MORE or LESS than the number stated.
Example : The Over/Under on the N.Y. Yankees for winning games over
the period of the regular season might be set at an even 100 games.
As a bettor you can wager and choose whether they will indeed win
MORE than 100 games ( Over ) or that they will falter, choke and fail to
win as much as 100 games ( Under ). This wager will not only provide you action for regular and single events but will cover the results of
entire seasons as well!
So there you go to get you off and running with the basics of sportsbook wagering. Now do your homework, use your head and bet smart!

Straight bets are the best and safest. Unders/overs are much more unpredictable. Accumulators are worth a fiver every now and then

I do agree with that. Its a 50/50 shot which is much better then most gambling odds.
I also like to do 2 team parlays which payout at odds of 13/5 instead of 9/10 on straight bets.
