Online Gambling and Poker
Online Gambling is at the summit of popularity this year, more people have been flocking to online websites to dabble some cash on games such as roulette, blackjack and slots, but right now, it seems as if the world can’t get enough of online poker! And most experienced poker players know how it started!
Back in 1998, “Rounders” came out, starring Matt Damon, who is a talented Poker player who pays his way through law school by playing poker. This film completely changed the way we looked at gambling and Poker, it made the game look interesting, and of course, we all remember the same year, Matt Damon also played in the actual World Series of Poker, like in the movie, which turned out to be an absolute classic.
One of the films fans, a young accountant from Tennesse, called Chris Moneymaker, saw the film and decided to learn the game. Un-fortunately, he struggled to find a card room, so turned to gambling online, in online poker rooms, which back then, was nothing compared to the online giant it is now! Chris perfected his technique and then played a $40 tournament online to win a trip to the World Series of Poker, and buy in to the main event. Chris then went on to win the game, taking home a price of a cool $2.5 million, and overnight, viewers at home, online and all over the world began to wonder if they could achieve the same thing, and before you knew it Poker was bigger then ever before! The following year, an amateur patent clerk won the same event, but by this time the increased popularity in the game drove the jackpot up to $5 million, and by 2006 the world of online poker truly took off, and jackpots at the WSOP were hitting £12 million.
Poker players were drawn out of smoky back rooms and into the online community, and the big rooms in Vegas, and today, the Poker industry alone is worth billions of dollars nowadays, and a hefty chunk of that is based online, for you to play in your own homes! You can easily find tournaments online or in a casino every minute of the day. Online Poker has been officially declared the most played online gambling game, and it’s big online news!
Another huge story to break recently has been about the UK’s online gambling billionaire Anurag Dikshit. Dikshit (pronounced Dix-it) is giving all the proceeds from his PartyGaming sale to charity, and is also planning to sell his remaining stake in the coming months, according to his spokesman.
He'll be donating the proceeds from both sales to the charity he founded several years ago, the Kusuma Trust, which provides welfare support and educational opportunities to at-risk children in Gibraltar, India and the U.K. The money will be transferred to the charity "as soon as it is practically possible" said Shimon Cohen, who represents Dikshit. There is already about $80 million in the trust. His generosity has stunned the online gambling community. He had joined PartyGaming in 1998, a year after it was founded by American entrepreneur Ruth Parasol, and wrote the company's software that allowed gamblers in different parts of the world to pay poker with one another.

nowaday's vast interest of poker to people can be attributed to mainstream media. Facebook got tons of poker apps, recent poker tournaments are now aired on local television, and little by little poker is now being treated as a strategy rather than a gambling game.

each and every game in casino has a HE and you're betting against the house...in poker, you aren't playing against the house, but rather against other people. Its a skill game. The house/casino doesn't have an interest in which players win or lose money - they get the same % rake no matter what. For this reason alone, I think poker deserves status above casino games and other games of chance.
