Notable Major League Baseball Matchups 18-19 August 2018 by Christ Watford for NoLuckNeeded.com All rights reserved

This past week of baseball was one for the history books: the Mariners swept the Astro’s for the first time in history and David Bote hit an ultimate grand slam to walk off the Washington Nationals. Bote’s grand slam was the FIRST ever walk off grand slam to win a game in a shutout. With the high of Bote’s grand slam still resonating with Chicago Cub’s fans, let’s take a look at the notable matchups for this upcoming weekend.

Houston Astros (74-47) @ Oakland Athletics (72-49) 8/18

The Astros have been in a skid over the past 10 games - getting swept by the Mariners for the first time in history and a loss to the Rockies to top it off, but at least they beat them 12-1 in the next game right? The Astros were hoping they could beat up on a slightly inferior team in the Mariners but that obviously didn’t work out and now they’re close to losing the top spot in their division. The Astros have gone 10-4 against the Athletics this year and they’ll be playing on the road, which they hold a fantastic record of 41-18. Astros pitcher, Dallas Keuchel is expected to pitch opposite of Trevor Cahill. Keuchel has been the Astros best starting pitcher over the last couple of months with a 2.19 ERA and a record of 6-1. The Athletics have not lost a game over the past month when they have started Cahill. This series is going to be an intense matchup between two teams in a fight for the better division record and you definitely don’t want to miss it! Catch the matchup this Saturday at 4:05 PM ET on NSCA.

Detroit Tigers (50-71) @ Minnesota Twins (56-63) 8/18/18

In the laughably bad AL Central there is at least one halfway-decent matchup to come out of this weekend: the Tigers and the Twins. The Tigers are 18-41 on the road this year and are more than 20 games below .500 but it will be interesting to see if they can pull anything off. Artie Lewicki is expected to make his fourth start this season opposite of Kohl Stewart. Neither of these guys have been very noteworthy this year - Lewicki has a 5.40 ERA including giving up 3 runs in 4 2/3 innings in last outing against the White Sox. Kohl Stewart will be making his second career start, in his first start he allowed 3 runs over 4 1/3 innings, struck out one batter and gave up 8 hits. This matchup will either be incredibly high scoring or some of the ugliest baseball we’ve seen. Either way it’ll be entertaining. Watch this bizarre game this Saturday on FSN at 7:10 PM ET.

Los Angeles Dodgers (65-57) @ Seattle Mariners (72-50) 8/19/18

The Mariners are fresh off their historical sweep against the Astros and are looking to take out another team along the way. This will be the M’s first and only matchup against the Dodgers this year and they’re hoping to make it count. Superstar pitcher, Clayton Kershaw (5-5) will be pitching opposite of Marco Gonzalez (5-3). Kershaw boasts a 2.47 ERA for the season, with a 3.46 ERA in his career against the Mariners. Gonzalez has hit a rough patch this August after pitching absolutely phenomenal baseball earlier in the season. In his first five starts Gonzalez had a mind-boggling 1.57 ERA with five wins. However, in the month of August Gonzalez is 0-3 with an abysmal 7.94 ERA including an awful outing against the Athletics his last time out. This will be Gonzalez’s first time pitching against the Dodgers. Catch the game on SNLA or RTNW this Sunday at 10:10 PM ET.
