MLB Notable Matchups August 4th, 2018 by Christ Watford for NoLuckNeeded.com
We’re in the first week of August and the playoffs are coming up quick and the pressure is on for some teams. Let’s enjoy the last two months of the regular season and take a look at some notable matchups for the first weekend of August.
Toronto Blue Jays @ Seattle Mariners 8/4
The Seattle Mariners are down 2-0 in their current four game series against the Toronto Blue Jays and they’re hoping that they can take these next two games to even it out. James Paxton (-120) is coming off a fantastic outing against the Astros his last time out. Paxton pitched 7 innings, striked out 8 batters and is sitting on a healthy 3.49 ERA for the season. Marco Estrada (+100) is expected to throw the first pitch for the Blue Jays and he hasn’t been as hot this season. Dealing with a 4.90 ERA and a 4-8 record for the season, Estrada is going to have his work cut out for him tomorrow night on RTNW 10:10 PM ET.
New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox 8/4
Ah, the decade old rivalry between the Yanks and the Sox never gets old but the games do last forever. The first two innings between the Red Sox and the Yankees lasted 55 minutes with 100 thrown pitches and was a high scoring game, Red Sox winning 15-7. Chance Adams (-145) is expected to throw out the first pitch for the Yankees tomorrow in his first major league debut.
Ex-Yankee, Nathan Eovaldi (+125) is expected to pitch for the Red Sox after a fantastic debut for against the twins with seven shutout innings. The Yankees have had some problems against the Red Sox this series and they’re hoping they can win the next two games to tie the series. First pitch will be thrown on 8/4, 4:05 PM ET on YES.
Houston Astros @ Los Angeles Dodgers 8/4
The Houston Astros will be taking on the LA Dodgers in a rematch of last year’s World Series. With an improved lineup the Dodgers added Manny Machado and Brian Dozier before Tuesday’s non-waiver deadline, the Dodgers are hoping that they can shed some of the emotion off of last year’s World Series loss. Lance McCullers Jr. (-220) is expected to start for Houston, opposite of Kent Maeda (+180). McCullers has hit a rough patch of the season with a horrendous 9.23 ERA in his last three games. Maeda hasn’t been much better, allowing 4 runs off of 7 hits in his last start against the Brewers. First pitch will be thrown on SNLA, 8/4 9:10 PM ET.
