I think it is not sert that gambling and sports have been around since ancient times

I am certain humans have been gambling since before we created fire. Even a race to see who can catch a mammoth before getting killed is a gamble. We also know sports have been around since ancient times because of the greeks and romans. There is no doubt that when a sport game happened in ancient roman, that many would have bet on it.
