webdeb, GOOD LUCK! You can do it!
I quit 3 years ago on January 7th and do not miss it! I used nicotine lozenges. My suggestion would be not to give up if you slip. The human body and mind are very adaptable so if you change your patterns and make new patterns you can do it!
Also, I didn't tell anyone I was quitting so I did not have to hear everyone ask me about it.

Happy New Year, everyone! Having a party at our house tonight, just a small group of around 12 good friends. Just a bunch of middle-aged folks playing cards, enjoying some food and drinks, and singing karaoke, of course!

I enjoyed smoking too webdeb, but I got mad that they kept raising the taxes on cigarettes, so I swore I would quit, and I guess it was just my time. I am so glad you are going to try, because I have friends with COPD that don't even try. You may not succeed at first, but keep trying, and eventually, you will succeed, and add years to your life!!!

Good luck to you webdeb!!! I quit a few years back, and it was the best thing I ever did!!! It is hard, but if I can do it, you certainly can. I was a hardcore 3 to 4 pack a day smoker, and I quit, so I know anyone can, you just have to be ready for it!!!
Thanks for the encouragement, I enjoy smoking and if it wasn't for health reason, I'd continue it but I got bronchitis, a lung infection and was diagnosed with COPD this past year so it's definately time to quit. It's mostly mental to control the craving and I quit for 8 months, a few years ago, but fell off the wagon during a stressful time. At 2 packs aday, there's alot of habitual reaching for a cigarette so instead I'm buying a lot of pretzel goldfish to reach for instead. For additional incentive, Hubby and I are going to put the money we spend on ciggies each week away for extra $ for our usual anniversary 2/17 casino trip.
GOOD LUCK WEBDEB , IT IS NOT EASY BUT YOU CAN DO THIS. I DID IT JUST UNDER 2 YEARS AGO WENT COLD TURKEY AND MY BOYFRIEND USED THE PATCHES. I STILL HAVE CRAVINGS BUT I JUST IGNORE THEM SPECIALLY WHILE AM AT A CASINO AND THE PERSON NEXT TO ME IS SMOKING. SOME TIMES I JUST HAVE TO MOVE TO ANOTHER MACHINE..

New Year's Eve party a success! The weather was not good, roads started icing up, so I anticipated some overnight guests (had couches, recliners, air mattresses, blankets ready!) Most took the smart option of filling up on food instead of drinks. Still had a great time and everyone made it home safe! Happy 2019 everyone!
