I lived with my grandma from 3-6 years of age while my mother worked through some "issues". She was a great lady...but boy could she get mean!!!! All of us knew who was BOSS, and it sure wasn't us!!! She passed in 82 and I love and miss her very much!

My grandmother was an old farm girl from Kentucky, USA. I remember cooking with her. She never measured a thing, but no matter what she made it turned out wonderful. I think I have have taken a bit of that with me as I never use a measuring spoon either. . lol
I remember walking throught the garden with her in the summer, and picking strawberries from her strawberry patch. Can't say I miss stringing and canning green beans though. She's been gone 22 years now. It really is a shame but the only picture that I have of her is one I took with my new camera at Christmas 1982 when she fell asleep on the couch after cooking dinner, and had her mouth wide open. We used to tease her about that all the time, and she would deny it. . .lol
Thanks for the chance to reminisce TDTAT!

My Grandmother means the world to me. She raised me for half of my life when my mother wasn't able to. She always makes me laugh by the tings she does. About 2 years ago I was working at a radio station and it was christmas eve and we were having an "on the air" party. We had people call in and wish their friends and family a Merry Chritmas, and people stopping by to come on and talk. We had someone scheduled to come in dressed as santa for the children that were coming in, but they got caught in a storm and couldnt make it. My grandmother called and I had told her what was going on. Sure anough about an hour later, in walks Grandma dressed as Santa. My co-workers and I thought it was the sweetest thing because she has a bad hip and has a hard time getting around. It just showed that she would do anything to make others happy. I just thought I would share that story because it is something I will never forget.

Unfortunately, I don't have a living Grandma from either my Mom or Dad's side of the family.
In fact, no living Grandparents at all....
My Grandma from Mom's side, I have never met.
My Grandma, from my Dad's side.......died when I was about 22 years old.
I was never really able to have a real conversation with her, as she spoke Japanese, and No English.
I don't know a word of Japanese ...........only my last name.

My grandma also played a key component in my upbringing.
Besides giving me unconditional love and always being a great listener,
She taught me a few life lessons I live by:
1) People usually do things to the best of their ability - remember this when you are driving your car or when arguing with a loved one.
2) Everybody has 'warts' - be kind, loving, and respectful with peoples' shortcomings; you would want the same done to you.
3) There but by the grace of God go I. - When you catch yourself feeling sorry for yourself, because of your current 'plight', just remember that there are so many others in this world that would give anything to have 'your' problems, instead of their hardships.
4) I don't know if it's Good or Bad...I just know, that is how it is today.
My Grandma is an amazing person. I hope to someday come to the point of love and understanding I have always seen her to be at.

I hardly knew my grandmothers. They both lived in Poland and I only met them briefly on holiday over there.
Seeing my mother's mum was just like looking at an older copy of my mum!
Same looks, same personality.
My dad's mum always managed to make me laugh, though (because of translation difficulties) I was never sure whether or not it was intentional. My dad was a giggler, and I think his mum was too. Anyway, I remember spending a couple of weeks at her house and all the family behaved like lunatics!! I'm sure I would have loved her if I'd known her better.

MY GRAMS WAS THE BEST OF THE BEST! SHE HAD 4 DAUGHTERS FROM 4 HUSBANDS AND RAISED THEM ALL ON HER OWN AFTER HUSBANDS DEATHS AND 1 DISAPPEARANCE IN WAR.
SHE COULD OUT-WALK ME WHEN I WAS IN MY 20-S AND SHE IN HER
80-S
SHE LIVED TO BE 106 AND NEVER SHOWED A SIGN OF ILLNESS UNTIL THE WEEK OF HER DEATH. AND SMILED AS SHE SAID GOOD-BYE.
SHE SPIKED OUR "COOL-AID" WITH WINE. MADE THE BEST EATS EVER! AND WAS ALWAYS HAPPY TO SEE FAMILY!
SHE WAS ONE OF THE SMARTEST WHEN IT CAME TO MAKING $ BUYING/SELLING HOUSES...MAKING QUILTS....YARD SALES FROM THING SHE REPAIRED THAT OTHERS TRASHED OR SOLD CHEEP. SHE ALWAYS HAD SOMETHING GOIN'....RIGHT UP TO THE END!
WHEN I WAS 17 YRS OLD, I WAS IN LOVE! I HAD SEEN "MY LOVE" OUT WITH ANOTHER AND I TOTALLY LOST IT! WE HAD BEEN LIVING TOGETHER FOR OVER A YEAR AT THAT TIME... I CALLED MY FOLKS, WHO DIDN'T TAKE ME HOME...THEY TOOK ME TO GRAMS!
GRAMS TOLD ME SHE WAS DISSAPOINTED...THAT NO ONE WAS WORTH AS MUCH AS ME! AND WHAT MADE HER THE MOST UPSET ABOUT THIS WAS IT WAS OVER A MAN!
SHE SAID "HONEY, A MAN IS ONLY WORTH WHAT HE IS WORTH AND WHEN THERE IS NOTHING LEFT....SIT ON A BUS BENCH...WITHIN 5 MINS. ANOTHER WILL COME ALONG! SEE WHAT HE'S WORTH BEFORE YOU JUMP IN & IF THAT ONE TAKES A CRAP (SHE SAID S---) THEN GET YOUR ASS BACK TO THE NEAREST BUS STOP!"
SHE WENT ON TO TELL ME HOW SHE PUT 3 IN THE GROUND & LOST 1. THEN SHE ASKED ....
ME HOW MANY I THOUGHT IT TOOK FOR HER TO FIND 3 (ADMITTING SHE MESSED UP ON 1)
WORTH A CRAP? SHE SAID "I'VE SPENT MY FAIR SHARE OF TIME SITTING AT THE BUS STOP & I'VE BEEN BLESSED DOING SO."
SHE FINISHED BY TELLING ME "TIMES MAY CHANGE BUT MEN DON'T!" SHE SMACKED ME UP-SIDE THE HEAD & SAID "FIND A BUS STOP NEXT TIME!"
I NEVER FORGOT HER WORDS....THE FUNNY THING WAS YEARS LATER WHEN IT CAME OUT ON A TEE SHIRT ONLY FROM A MANS POINT OF VEIW.....SO THEY THINK!
SHE WAS A SMART OL' GAL!
I STILL SMILE EVERY TIME I THINK OF HER, WHICH IS STILL OFTEN EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!
LOVE YOU GRAMS!

both sets of my grandparents are gone but i have such vivid memories of my grandparents on my mom's side. My parents, myself and my aunts would all get together and play cards all day long almost everyday at my grandma's house and they would all tell the funniest stories of when they were growing up. Grandma used to make a huge meal while we laughed. I was quite young at the time and just loved to hear all the stories.
I am now a grandma (nana) myself and I cherish my 2 granddaughters. They are the world to me. I wake up looking at their pictures, thinking of their smiles and funny little antics and sayings they come up with. I can't think of a more perfect way to start my day. I call my daughter most everyday just to tell her I love her and thank her for the most precious pair of granddaughters in the world.

Hi , I did mot have any grandmother they where both gone when I was born . But I seen this and wanted to share it and I think it explains all .If I could have meet my grandmothers I know I would have loved them as much as I love my mother when she was alive . So Love to you Mother and your mothers
Grandma's some Seventy Seven plus years, sat feebly on the patio bench.
She didn't move, just sat with her head down staring at her hands. When I sat down beside her she didn't acknowledge
my presence and the longer I sat I wondered if she was ok. Finally, not really wanting to disturb her but
wanting to check on her at the same time, I asked her if she was ok.
She raised her head and looked at me and smiled. Yes, I'm fine, thank you for asking, she said in a clear strong voice. I didn't mean to disturb you, grandma, but you were just sitting here staring
at your hands and I wanted to make sure you were ok.
Have you ever looked at your hands, she asked. I mean really looked at your
hands?
I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I turned them over, palms
up and then palms down. No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands, as I tried to figure out the point
she was making.
Grandma smiled and related this story:
Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have, how they have served
you well throughout your years. These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled and weak have been the tools I have
used all my life to reach out and grab and embrace life. They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I
crashed upon the floor. They put food in my mouth and clothes on my back. As a child my mother taught me to
fold them in prayer. They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots.
They dried the tears of my children and caressed the love of my life. They
held my young husband and wiped my tears when he went off to war.
They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent. They were firm yet
gentle when I held my newborn son. Decorated with my wedding band, they showed the world that I was married
and loved someone special. They replied to the letters wri tten home and trembled and shook when I buried my parents and spouse and watched as my daughter walked down the aisle.
Yet, they were strong and sure when I grabbed my child and jerked her away
from danger when a car was going too fast, and they clasped my children lovingly for stitches, broken bones,
and measles. They have held children, consoled neighbors, and shook in anger when I didn't understand. They
have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body, and those of my family.
From the day a new baby was born, to the day I washed my first love's body and prepared him for his final viewing.
They have been sticky, wet, bent, broken, dried, and raw.
To this day when not much of anything else of me works real well, these hands hold me up, lay me down, and continue to fold in prayer. These hands are the mark of where I've been and
the richness of my life.
This is simply too beautiful not to share.
It is beautiful. If you look at your hands and think for a moment, you can see your life. Your hands show all your sorrow, happiness, struggles and strength.
